A native Torontonian, Jannett was born into the hospitality industry with a grandfather who was a master baker and her grandmother a hotel chef. Jannett spent her youth between Canada and Germany where she started working in the family hotel & restaurant business at the tender age of 10 serving food and beverages and welcoming guests. Jannett’s passion for the industry never waned and after graduating high school studied for 3 years at a local Hospitality & Tourism Management college. During her college externship, Jannett was hired as the youngest sales manager ever with Western International Hotels (Westin Hotels) and took up residence with Westin Hotels for 5 years in their management training program, learning every aspect and department in a hotel operation. As a hospitality professional, Jannett spent the next 25+ years managing team members and traveling around the world in her capacity as Director of Sales & Marketing with Delta Hotels, Sheraton, White Oaks Resorts, Cambridge Suites, Deerhurst Resort, Holiday Inn and finishing back at Westin Hotels. In 1998, Jannett merged her passion for hospitality with her passion for teaching and started to teach a wide selection of hospitality courses, vowing to bring the industry into the classroom and teaching students the reality of the business. Jannett has been a proud contract faculty member at George Brown College since 2012 where she continues to share industry experiences with students and mentors them to follow their passions into the world of hospitality. A dedicated life-long learner, Jannett went back to university in 2012 to get her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Brock University where she graduated with distinction. Jannett is now working on her Master’s in Education and Digital Technology Learning at the Ontario Tech University (formerly UOIT).
